Who We Are
The Journey is a family of disciples, sent by God as servants to reconcile and help others learn the ways of Jesus.
Identity
A great way to begin to learn about the Identity of The Journey is here, starting with this sermon by Kevin Partridge on Gospel:
Family:
-Jesus said his
brothers and sisters and mother were those who did the will of the Father. -He and his disciples
demonstrated a picture of the life of a family following Jesus. -They had very
different backgrounds and worldviews, but were connected by their love for Jesus. -The early church
continued this unity. “One another verses” -There was no one among them in need and they ate
in each other’s homes daily (Acts 2). -Jesus said, “it is by our love for each other they will know we are
disciples.”
Disciples:
-Every believer is a
disciple, or apprentice, continually learning from Jesus how to live. -Every disciple is
called to be a disciple maker, teaching others to obey Jesus’ commands. -The original pattern
for disciple making is found in Deuteronomy 6. (2 Tim 2:2 in NT)
-Making disciples who
make disciples requires SHOWING another how to follow Jesus as well as TELLING. Making Disciples is
show and tell and sharing experiences. We don’t begin discipling someone after
they believe in Jesus, but when we first meet them.
Sent:
Sent, a sermon by Van Hardin
-We Believe that God
has a mission, a purpose for the church, and for the world.
-It is a mission of
reconciliation of all creation back to its Creator. -Through the work of
Jesus, people are able to be freed to join God in the ministry of
reconciliation. -We are sent both proactively
and reactively, intentionally and situationally.
-As Jesus was sent to
restore, he sends us to restore.
Servants:
Servants, a sermon by Jeff Anderton
-Jesus came not to be
served, but to serve.
-He taught his
followers to serve each other in the same way.
-He sent them in pairs
to serve and heal and preach gospel. -I have what I have,
not for me, but to serve others.
